A true Pan-African at heart, Akunga channels a deep connection with his ancestors, who guide his creativity into the realm of mysticism, satire,  social commentary, the mundane, and everything in between. These revolutionary ideas shape his filmmaking journey. More than just a visual storyteller, Akunga is a dreamer, a poet, and forger of new pathways. Despite being young in the industry,  he has a knack of infusing his work with depth and emotion across narrative films, documentaries, commercials, social media storytelling, and music videos.

 His graduation project, Hex Appeal, earned a Kalasha Award nomination for Best Student Film. His skills have been sharpened through programs like The Great Lakes Creative Producers’ Lab 2022, Multichoice Screenwriting Lab at ZIFF 2022, and the Cinemadamere Travelling Campus, where he shot films across Italy and France during the summer of 2024. Through these  experiences he has expanded his perspectives and forged valuable networks.

He co-founded BnD, a collective of dreamers. BnD’s goal is to foster honest conversations about everyday challenges, portrayed through a lens that feels larger than life—often dreamy or surreal.

BnD led to the creation of  Kuza Film Community, a vibrant community aimed at redefining the African cinema culture by providing filmmakers with platforms to showcase their films and engage with audiences directly and curating community based film experiences.
